Remember!

A wee reminder to jog your memory.
Can you remember?
  • the street and shops.  How many hairdressers, barbers, butchers, bakers, chemists, shoe shops, grocers.  The top tallies and the bottom tallies etc and where were they all?
  • Waterford Hotel were you married there? did you meet your sweetheart there? did you work there ?  Ian Johnstone on a Saturday night?  What other bands can you remember?
  • The Cellar, Dunvegan Hotel Folk Nights, Dances in the Drill Hall, Craiglynne Hall, The Institute?
  • where and what did you play did  at? volting across the burny, housies in the brooms, sledging on the tiddlywinks?  You tell me.
  • the skating pond with the big light in the middle, learn to swim or dive at the bathing pool after you bought all your ice cream and lemonade in Craigens, or ski on the golf course.
  • big bonfires all over the town at each end of Kylintra crescent. East End and Backstreet.
  • when the cattle show was in the black park and they had sideshows at the mossie.
  • What about the school Doctor Bain, Hunter the school master or Miss Legg, Miss Grant or Thorny?
  • Creeping past Hendry the dentist's in the High Street
  • The cinema which one? there was one burnt down and the railway station, or the Reme Depot.  What about the fiire station siren every Saturday at 12:45.

  1. These are great memories, I remember pole volting the burny, steeling pea pods from the gardens, playing on the swings at Mackay Avenue, and sledging down the Craiglynne Brae. Working in Mackays Hotel after school, sitting in the bottom cafe playing the jukebox, going to the Waterford then getting the last bus up to Aviemore to Cythia's disco. skating on the pond, swimming at the bathing pool and loads of other good memories those were the day's.
